Protected from the Northern winds by the Lattari Mountains, Positano has a mild and dry climate. The structure of the town is very original; its buildings cling, in tiers to the rock face. The small houses, all huddling on top of each other, so characteristic of Positano, form the subject of endless photos. The vibrant colours; the white of the buildings, forming a perfect canvas for the bright flowers which decorate the houses, and the small artisans~, shops with their multihued cloths, present the visitor with a vista which is almost difficult to believe. Then there is the smell of the leather used for making sandals, and the restaurants specialised in fish dishes, and the bustle of every day life...
Positano offers the visitor superb views and beautiful beaches; the Marina and the Spiaggia Grande, which are at the foot of the town and the smaller Fornillo and Porta di Arienzo beaches on either side.

Excursions
Positano is well connected, by both land and sea, to a number of much sought after locations, especially during the summer season, so visitors can make many excursions. Each day, in high season, there are connections and guided tours to the areas of greatest tourist and cultural interest. Indeed, the Campania region is a veritable treasure chest brimful of history and traditions: from the incredible archaeological site of Pompei to the fascinating island of Capri.
Without having to move very far from the town of Positano, you can enjoy a starlit night listening to an exclusive concert on the panoramic terraces of Ravello, or explore the beautiful seabeds guided by a local expert. Immediately behind the Amalfi Coast, you can venture into the mountains, which guard almost undiscovered scenery, featuring waterfalls and rare tropical plants. For information and bookings, you need only contact the reception staff of the hotel in which you are staying

Restaurants
In Positano visitors can savour a number of delicious specialities linked to the maritime and farming traditions, choosing from fresh fish or meat dishes. Local delicacies include spaghetti with clams cooked with local extra virgin olive oil, fish soups, fried anchovies tossed in mint, vinegar and garlic, sword fish parcels, and peppered mussels.
For those who prefer meat, the mixed grills are superb, accompanied with a variety of vegetable side dishes. The ancient pastry tradition is well represented by the mouth watering ‘delizie al limone’, ‘torta positanese’ the ‘sfoglitella’ made without ricotta cheese and the ‘babarese’, a babà filled with cream and wild strawberries. Local liquors are excellent, made with the area’s highly perfumed citrus fruits, wild strawberries and myrtle, roses, bay leaves and walnuts
